Student Council Dances

One highlight of middle school involves school dances! The Oliver Middle School sponsors three dances each year. One in the fall, one in the winter and one in the spring. All sixth, seventh and eighth grade Oliver Middle School students are eligible to come to the dances as long as they have attended school the day of the dances and have not had any discipline referrals causing them to attend ISS on the day of the dance. The dances always start at 7:00 pm and for sixth grade it will end at 9:00, for seventh grade at 9:15, and for eighth grade at 9:30 pm.

Enter Dance

Sixth grade students will enter the dance through the southern most door in the front loop of the school. Seventh and eighth grade students will enter through the door on the south side near the walled garden. Students then go through the upper gym to leave their coats and then go down the far south stairs to the lower gym lobby. Students purchasing tickets on the night of the dance will enter through the single glass door to the south of the gym lobby doors.

Pick Up

Parents pick up students in the south parking lot.

The dances are open to only Oliver Middle School students. All students who attend the dance are expected to follow the district code of conduct (cell phones can be used only to call home at the end of the dance). Money raised during the dances supports the Student Council and through them, other extra-curricular clubs and activities.

Tickets are on sale during lunch periods on Tuesday through Friday of the week of the dance. The ticket cost is $5 if purchased Tuesday through Friday and $10 ($5 plus an item to donate or $10) if purchased at the door of the dance. There will be a different charity each dance that we will be accepting donations for.

We highly encourage the students to purchase their tickets ahead of time so that they can get in to the dance and enjoy the whole time there. Having tickets ahead of time expedites the process of entering the night of the dances. Make sure you have your student ID (if you have lost your ID, see Mrs. Kenney in the Assistant Principals’ Office by Wednesday the week of the dance) to be able to purchase your ticket and to be able to enter the dance. You also must have been in attendance at school the Friday the dance takes place.

Purchase Ticket at Door

If you plan on purchasing your ticket at the door, you must have been in school that day for at least half the day in order to attend. Please have an adult with you. If you do not have an adult with you, and you either had been absent from school, or received a referral causing you to attend ISS during the Friday of the dance date, you will be calling someone to pick you up.

Come and hang out with your friends, dance, purchase pizza, candy or soda in the concession stand and have fun!

At each of the dances this year there will be an opportunity to give back to the community. At our Spring Dance, we will be collecting nonperishable food items to donate to the Brockport Food Shelf. If you purchase your ticket at the door, the price is $5 with a nonperishable food item or $10 without. You can bring a nonperishable food item even if you purchase your ticket during lunch. There will be a box at the door at the dance for donated items!

Eighth Grade Dinner Dance

It will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Due to the catering aspect of the dinner dance, tickets are a different price and must be purchased ahead of time. More information will be posted as it gets closer to June.
Dance Expectations
Our student council advisors created a video explaining our dance expectations and reminding our students to be respectful, responsible, learners. Click HERE to view the video on dance expectations.

For the Fall Dance, you may wear a costume to the dance, but it should comply with the dress code.  Your face needs to be visible, no masks.
