What You Do In Your Club: The Academic Challenge Bowl is a middle school version of the Master Mind program at the high school level. The program offers an opportunity for seventh and eighth grade students to be a member of an academically oriented competitive team. Students in sixth grade are welcome and may participate in practice sessions.

Any Special Requirements to Join: Primarily for students in seventh and eighth grade but interested sixth grade students may join.

Club Description: The Bookstore Club was established as a means for students to help fellow students find and obtain supplies needed for classes and school activities. It allows its club members the experience of checking in merchandise, pricing and shelving. We also sell ‘Spirit Wear’ which is used for OMS blue and white days on Fridays.

Any Special Requirements to Join: The Club is open to all middle school students.

What You Do In Your Activity: Each Spring, our eighth-grade students get the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. over a multi-day period to view important cultural and historic sites. Fundraising for the trip begins in the sixth grade year and continues into eighth grade.

Any Special Requirements to Join: For eighth-grade students who have earned the opportunity by maintaining an Oliver Essentials Score of at least 2, meeting deadlines for submitting paperwork and payments, and participation in Walking Group meetings. Fundraising opportunities and scholarships are available.

What You Do In Your Club: Students organize and run the fundraisers for the American History Trip. Students help with the distribution of fundraising materials and items.

What You Do In Your Club: The purpose of the Baking Club is to bring together students that have a common interest in baking. Students will prepare and eat the chosen food item the club decides for each meeting. Open to students in grades 6 – 8.

What You Do In Your Club: This club is designed to be a place for kids to relax, foster new friendships, and have fun learning and playing new games. The advisors will be there to support positive peer relationships in a cooperative community environment.

What You Do In Your Club: The purpose of the Brockport Ski and Snowboard Club is to bring together students that have a common interest in snow sports and encourage participation in and to promote skiing and snowboarding. Club members have the opportunity to meet other skiers/boarders and make new friends. This is a chance to learn more about skiing and/or snowboarding. Open to all students in grades 6 – 8; no experience needed.

Any Special Requirements to Join: Equipment is available for rent, and lessons can be purchased.

What You Do In Your Club: The Diversity Club is a group of responsible young people striving for unity among their peers. It is our mission to show that people from different and unique backgrounds can work effectively together to improve society. We strive to share and learn the values and beliefs of others so that we can become role models in our communities and give back to our communities.

Any Special Requirements to Join: Members should have an open mind as well as an interest in learning about other cultures and/or be willing to share their own with others.

What You Do In Your Club: Students will learn the basics of acting through various drama games and activities. Students will participate in a wide variety of self-expression activities, playacting and public speaking to sharpen students’ acting skills, increase their confidence and have fun. Various workshop opportunities on the different aspects of theatre (acting, musical and technical) may be offered.

The OMS Drama Club also sponsors the OMS Winter Musical and possibly a spring play. Auditions are required for acting parts in these shows. There are also opportunities for stage and tech crews. Additionally, there are opportunities for attending local theater performances (high school, SUNY Brockport, GeVa, etc.).

What You Do In Your Club: Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Students will research real-world problems under the guidance of adult coaches, and are encouraged to develop solutions for those problems. They must also design, build, and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology, then compete on a table-top playing field. 

Any Special Requirements to Join: 

This will be open to all middle school students. The FIRST organization limits teams to a maximum of 10 students. Sign up will be on an online application.

What You Do In Your Club: An after-school program like no other! During the 10-week season, girls of all abilities will have fun, make friends, increase their physical activity levels and learn important life skills. Trained and caring coaches lead 6th -8th grade girls through interactive lessons and running activities. The season ends with a noncompetitive 5K event held on a weekend date TBD.

What You Do In Your Ensemble: Students will explore traditional Irish and American Fiddle and Folk songs through performance in a small ensemble of musicians. All music will be learned in the traditional style (by rote) and orchestrations and arrangements will be improvised during performances.

Any Special Requirements to Join: Student must be willing to perform music by ear. The club is geared towards orchestra students but is open to anyone.

Meeting Times: Usually 3 to 6 pm every night for about two months

What You Do In Your Activity: Get together with your school and create a masterpiece to share with your friends and family. You audition in the beginning to see if you’ve made the play and then you are given assigned characters. There is also a tech crew that makes scenery, runs the lights, and does makeup. The actors sing, dance, act and have a lot of fun.

Any Special Requirements to Join: You must be good at acting, singing and dancing. You must be dedicated to the play and to attending the rehearsals.

What You Do In Your Ensemble: This is a mixed-voice singing group that gives students the opportunity to study and perform more contemporary/ pop/ jazz repertoire than they would get in a typical choral setting.

What You Do In Your Club: The purpose is to improve the quality of science education, creating a passion for learning science and providing recognition for outstanding science achievement. Science Olympiad is a national program designed to get students involved in science, math, and technology. Students practice and prepare for events that they will compete in at the regional competition. Some events require building things such as towers, bridges, and catapults. Students also prepare for events where they will take a test and participate in hands-on activities to show what they have learned.

What You Do In Your Ensemble: The Sixth Grade Stage Band is an outgrowth of the Sixth Grade Band Program. The ensemble begins to learn jazz techniques and rehearses weekly throughout the year. The Stage Band has at least three concerts a year and a few members will have a chance to perform solos. The purpose is to introduce jazz concepts to sixth graders to prepare them for Jazz Ensemble.

Any Special Requirements to Join: Students must be a member of the Sixth Grade Band and in good standing academically.

Meeting Times: During the Activity Period every Wednesday from the last week in September to the last week in May with three concerts and a competition.

What You Do In Your Ensemble: The Jazz Ensemble is an extension of the Seventh and Eighth Grade Band Program. It is an opportunity for the band students to learn and experience music of the jazz idiom.

Any Special Requirements to Join: Students must be a member of the Seventh and Eighth Grade Band and perform on an ensemble instrument, but all students who meet the criteria are accepted. Rhythm section spots are available by audition.

What You Do In Your Club: Student Council is the student governing body of OMS. Student Council runs the dances, approves clubs’ activities, volunteers in the community, and votes on various school decisions. Representatives (and their alternates) represent the views of their homebase and are charged with disseminating information from meetings to their homebase.

Any Special Requirements to Join: Students are voted in as their representative or alternate by their peers in each homebase.

What You Do In Your Club: Students will help make the OMS climate brighter. Students will work closely with the PBIS staff to help with PBIS incentives and Boosters.

What You Do In Your Ensemble: Students can continue to improve their ability to sing outside of the regular chorus rehearsal while singing pop type songs that would not be sung in the large chorus. This gives students extra practice in reading music, singing in parts, and expanding their vocal knowledge.

Any Special Requirements to Join: Must be a member of the Chorus.

Meeting Times: During Activity Period for three informational meetings and three weeks of rehearsals.

What You Do In Your Activity: The Variety Show is an event that showcases the talent of our students at OMS. All students interested must attend a pre-audition meeting in the beginning of January, and then they must be selected as a performing group in the show. Students interested in stage crew must attend the meetings as well. You can participate in either a group or solo performance. Students selected will showcase their talents in front of the entire student body. The show takes place at the end of the school spirit week.

Any Special Requirements to Join: Students must be OMS students in good academic standing in order to audition. All acts must follow the Code of Conduct, contain appropriate subject matter, and be no longer than four minutes in length. Students are responsible for providing any equipment they will need for the audition or act. Each person participating will be responsible for turning in a signed permission contract and lyrics to Mrs. Madsen no later than the designated day and time.

What You Do In Your Club: We explore different cultural events/holidays, sample authentic food and drink, and create different crafts of Spanish & French speaking countries.

What You Do In Your Club: We work together to take pictures, organize different pages/layouts of the yearbook, count votes for the eighth grade ‘Brockport Best’ section, organize information flyers and distribute them, and distribute yearbooks at the end of the year.

    Meeting Times: Monthly and sometimes Weekly, during the Activity Period

    What You Do In Your Club: We work together to take pictures, organize different pages/layouts of the yearbook, count votes for the eighth grade ‘Brockport Best’ section, organize information flyers and distribute them, and distribute yearbooks at the end of the year.

    Any Special Requirements to Join: Students fill out an application and it is required to have a teacher recommendation and an interest in being involved.
